The entire wheel, which represents existence ruled by suffering, is held in the jaws and claws of the fierce blue figure of Yama, the Lord of Death, symbolizing that all beings within the cycle are subject to impermanence. The wheel is divided into the Six Realms of Existence (gods, humans, animals, etc.).
In the hub are the Three Poisons—ignorance (pig), hatred (snake), and desire (rooster)—which drive the continuous cycle of rebirth.
